Do I need prior CHW experience to enroll? +
No. This program welcomes both individuals who are new to the field and those with prior experience who want to strengthen their skills, expand their network, and advance professionally.
Does California require a license to work as a Community Health Worker (CHW)? +
No. California does not currently require a state license or certification to work as a Community Health Worker.

Catalyst Circles Community is designed around the 11 nationally recognized Community Health Worker Core Competencies and aligned with California's evolving Community Health Worker workforce landscape, including Community Health Worker services supported through Medi-Cal.

The program focuses on workforce readiness, leadership development, resource navigation, advocacy, health equity, social determinants of health, and practical Community Health Worker skills that support success across healthcare organizations, managed care plans, public health agencies, and community-based organizations.

Participants who successfully complete all program requirements receive a Certificate of Completion from Catalyst Circles Community.
Is this program only for people pursuing a CHW role? +
Not at all. The skills taught in this program are valuable for individuals working in healthcare, public health, nonprofits, social services, behavioral health, education, outreach, and community engagement roles.
I have leadership experience. Do I still need to complete all components? +
Yes. The Career Readiness component is required for all participants. While you may come with significant professional experience, this portion focuses specifically on CHW workforce development, networking, and applying CHW competencies within healthcare and community settings. All components must be completed to receive a Certificate of Completion.
What happens if I miss a session? +
Participants are expected to attend at least 80% of scheduled sessions. If an absence is unavoidable, please communicate with the facilitator as early as possible. Make-up opportunities may be provided when appropriate.
